Valencia is stunning...the unconventional type of breathtaking that takes you a bit to notice, but then you can't unsee it. It is the kind of mesmerizing that is Tilda Swinton, Anna Paquin, or Benedict Cumberbatch.
I've wandered hither and yon over the past few days and have literally stumbled across some of the most beautiful statuary, buildings, tile work, and gardens that I've had the pleasure of seeing in person. There is also a thriving street art scene in Valencia. I still believe Atlanta is the city to beat on that front, but Valencia makes a strong showing.
The thing that is most fun right now is that I am completely oblivious to where I am at most times and these works of art-- temporary and permanent, recent and ancient--seem to spring out from nowhere, like children playing hide-and-seek. Yesterday after I finished my salad, I walked to the end of the street and found myself in the middle of Plaza de la Virgen where I took the photo of the fountain with the reclining Neptune.
